About Home education

General information about home education (prior to July 2011)

Home education is an educational alternative where the parents take the responsibility for their childrens' education. Several pedagogies are used among families. Most common is that the parents' role is more of mentors than teachers, especially in the higher grades. Knowledge and abilities can be acquired in most varying ways, and from a plethora of both formal and informal places and circumstances. Home education takes place full-time, part-time, in combination with distance learning, shorter periods, or for the duration of school.
